NEURAL IMAGE VIEWER HELP

The control panel at the side of the embryo contains the controls for the neural image viewer, though there are also some shortcut keys highlighted in blue for certain functions.

EXPAND ALL
NAVIGATE WITHIN AN IMAGE
  • drag the image within the main viewer window
  • OR
  • drag the zone box within the navigation window at the top of the control panel (see image)
ZOOM IN AND OUT
  • use the '+' and '-' keys on your keyboard
  • OR
  • use the '+' and '-' Zoom control buttons in the control panel (see image)
  • OR
  • double click with the mouse to zoom in, and shift double click with the mouse to zoom out
  • OR
  • use the mouse wheel within the navigation window at the top of the control panel
CHANGE THE BRIGHTNESS OF AN IMAGE
  1. Use the Brightness control buttons in the control panel to increase and decrease brightness (see image)
  2. Reset brightness to the default by clicking on the brightness symbol in the control panel (see image)
NAVIGATE WITHIN AN IMAGE STACK
  1. drag the slider to move to an approximate position within the stack
  2. enter the number of an image in the box and hit the return key
  3. click the arrows to move through the stack in increments of 3 images, or one image at a time
SELECT DIFFERENT REGIONS AND STAINS FOR AN EMBRYO
  1. choose the type of brain or spinal chord sections to display
  2. use the dropdown to select immunofluorescent or nissl stained images
  3. for immunofluorescent images choose a specific channel or the 'merge' composite
COMPARE SECTIONS OF DIFFERENT EMBRYOS
  1. click the 'SHOW EMBRYOS' button above the control panel to display embryos of the same stage
  2. drag an embryo onto the main window to compare sections
  3. embryos of other genes can also be compared using the dropdowns on the left (see image)
LOCK WINDOWS TOGETHER WHEN COMPARING SECTIONS
  1. click on a padlock icon to lock the windows containing the sections (images 1 and 2)
  2. both windows will then respond to actions taken in either set of controls with the exception of the stain and channel dropdowns
CREATE A LINK FOR A SPECIFIC VIEW
  • click the 'LINK FOR PAGE VIEW' button and copy the URL which appears
  • NB: when pasting the URL into another browser ensure cookies are enabled
